July 1, 2016: Prof. Donna Gotch has received an award of appreciation from the CSUSB Panhellenic Council in recognition of her support for the CSUSB Greek community and service to students.

July 1, 2016: Dr. Ahlam Muhtaseb has been selected to serve on the Advisory Board of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-LA). CAIR is the largest Muslim advocacy group in the U.S.

July 1, 2016: Two proposals to the CSU Commission on the Extended University for new online certificates in "Social Innovation and Diversity Management" and "Social Media Entrepreneurship and Innovation," both co-authored by Dr. Mihaela Popescu (with Dr. Alexandru Roman), have been approved for funding. These were two of only eight chosen from submissions from throughout the 23-campus CSU system.

June 1, 2016: Dr. Liliana Gallegos' and students' project on Lucha Libre: Mexican Horror Films has been competitively selected for participation in the CSUSB Office of Student Research's Summer Research Program.

June 1, 2016: Dr. Thomas Corrigan tied for First Place in the CSUSB Spring Faculty Showcase Awards for his pedagogical innovations in COMM 309: Digital Media and Communication.

April 2, 2016: Dr. Jo Anna Grant and Dr. Bradford Owen have been competitively selected to participate in CSUSB Quarter to Semester GE Transformation project as an assessment consultant and faculty inquiry group participant, respectively

March 1, 2016: Dr. Ahlam Muhtaseb has been appointed the Associate Director of CSUSB's Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies, and her interview on islamophobia in the academy aired recently on Los Angeles radio station KPFK

December 03, 2015: Dr. T.C. Corrigan and Dr. Liliana Gallegos have received Faculty/Student grants from the CSUSB Office of Student Research, and Dr. Mihaela Popescu's COMM 400 course was selected by OSR to participate in the Peer Lab Facilitator Program.

December 1, 2015: Dr. Mary Fong has been elected Chair of the National Communication Association's Spiritual Communication Division.

November 30, 2015: Dr. Brian Heisterkamp has been elected First Vice President of the Western States Communication Association, and will be its next President.

October 15, 2015: CSUSB students and staff are honored at the 2015 Inland Empire Media Awards: CSUSB broadcast media consultant and Coyote Radio manager Lacey Kendall of Twin Peaks received "Media Talent of The Year." Kendall was honored for her 30 years of service as a Southern California broadcaster, manager, educator, and for her service to a multitude of youth-oriented charities, civic and professional media organizations. Kendall is also host of a popular program on KCAL FM 96.7. Coyote Radio was the recipient of the "College Media Outlet of the Year." The radio station was honored as an innovative learning laboratory for students, for its internship program that has helped hundreds of CSUSB students find employment in the media, and for its production of environment and community oriented radio programs such as "My Awesome Empire," and "Isla Earth." CSUSB received more nominations and awards than any other media company or higher education institution. Coyote Advertising Manager Jacob Poore and the student-produced television program "Local Matters" were also nominees for awards.

October 10, 2015: Dr. T.C. Corrigan has published two book chapters: "Digging the Moat: The Political Economy of ESPN's Cable Carriage Fees" in The ESPN Effect: Exploring the Worldwide Leader in Sports (Peter Lang); and "Who's Tracking Me?: Investigating and Publicly Documenting the Surveillance Economy Using Lightbeam and Wikipedia" in Media Education for a Digital Generation (Routledge).

September 30, 2015: Dr. T.C. Corrigan’s article "Media and Cultural Industries Internships: A Thematic Review and Digital Labor Parallels" has just been published in a special issue of the journal Communication, Capitalism & Critique entitled “"Interrogating Internships: Unpaid Work, Creative Industries, and Higher Education."

September 25, 2015: Dr. Mihaela Popescu's co-authored article "Big Data Analytics and the Limits of Privacy Management" has been accepted for publication in the top media studies journal New Media and Society.

August 3, 2015: Dr. Rueyling Chuang has been appointed Interim Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Letters.

July 23, 2015: New Communication Studies Assistant Professor and veteran Hollywood producer-director Lane Shefter Bishop, dubbed "The Book Whisperer" by CNN, has just published her book entitled Sell Your Story in a Single Sentence. In it, Professor Shefter Bishop shares advice from the frontlines of Hollywood on creating loglines for stories, screenplays and novels/plays/teleplays, scripts, and TV pilots.

July 14, 2015: Dr. Rod Metts presented his paper "Liminal, and Other (Mediated) Spaces in Everyday Life" at the IAMCR Conference in Montreal, Canada.

July 1, 2015: The third annual 31-day CSUSB London Summer Program, again co-directed by Dr. Bradford Owen, begins.

June 16, 2015: Dr. Ece Algan has received an international research and travel grant from Professors Across Borders.

June 10, 2015: Dr. T.C. Corrigan has received a College of Arts and Letters Dean’s Mini-Grant Award to develop his book proposal The Political Economy of Communication: A Methodology.

June 10, 2015: Dr. Mihaela Popescu has received a College of Arts and Letters Dean’s Mini-Grant Award with the English department’s Dr. Luz Elena Ramirez for their project “Artifacts and Data Footprints: Identity Beyond the Body in the Fiction of Arthur Conan Doyle and Jeffrey Vandermeer”

February 17, 2015: Dr. Ece Algan and Dr. Mihaela Popescu have been awarded Spring 2015 Travel Skills Study Awards (TSSAs) by the Teaching Resource Center, and Dr. Ahlam Muhtaseb and Dr. Mihaela Popescu have been awarded a Community Inquiry Grant, also by the Teaching Resource Center.

May 8, 2015: Dr. Mihaela Popescu has been appointed Faculty Associate in the Office of Academic Technology and Innovation. This position will play a critical role in shaping our efforts in faculty development, online and hybrid course design, and integration of emerging technologies in teaching and learning. 

September 1, 2014: Dr. Ece Algan has been appointed Director of CSUSB’s Center for Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.
