The Department of Communication Studies is a community of teachers/scholars who are devoted to the study of the social processes through which meaning is negotiated. Our academic mission is to nurture students' ability to integrate theoretical, critical, multicultural, and ethical perspectives on communication and apply them to issues and demands confronting them in their personal and professional lives.
The Department of English has an energetic, dedicated and award-winning faculty of scholar-teachers with an exciting range of specializations. We offer a variety of degree programs, including a Bachelor of Arts in English, with concentrations in Literature, Creative Writing, and Linguistics; a minor in English; a Master of Arts in English Composition with concentrations in Composition, Literature, and Applied Linguistics and TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language); and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with concentrations in Poetry and Fiction; and certificate programs in a variety of areas.

The CSUSB Music Department provides students with a rigorous musical education as a foundation for a life-long understanding and love of music, as well as preparation for a wide variety of 21st-Century musical careers. We accomplish this through an emphasis on undergraduate education, small class sizes, and close interaction between faculty and students. We also serve the campus and Inland Empire communities through performances and educational activities on and off campus.
The philosophy department at CSUSB addresses the student's need for personal growth and understanding by addressing the history of human intellectual thought, and fundamental questions in areas as diverse as logic, science and ethics. Philosophy's range of application is particularly broad. Through philosophy one may think about and develop perspectives on topics as diverse as god, science, language, logic, truth, ethics, politics and law.
Every theatre artist must be both a critic and a creator. The mission of the Department of Theatre Arts is to provide our majors with a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of theatre. The curriculum places particular emphasis on developing aesthetic awareness of the individual theatrical arts and exploring their collaborative relationships. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in a variety of fields, including the entertainment industry, education, and business.
World Languages & Literatures
The Department of World Languages & Literatures offers a wide variety of courses in the world languages, including American Sign Language, Arabic, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Persian (Farsi), Russian, Spanish and Turkish. Master's degree is available in Spanish; Bachelor's degrees are available in Arabic, French, and Spanish; minors are available in Arabic, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish, as well as Asian Studies and Latin American Studies.
Robert & Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA)
The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) brings art, culture, and the treasures of ancient Egypt to the Inland Empire. With nearly 10,000 annual visitors, RAFFMA serves one of the fastest growing regions in Southern California and displays one of the finest collections of ancient Egyptian antiquities west of the Mississippi.
