Bio

Hi. My name is Thomas F. Corrigan (or T.C.). I am a Professor in CSUSB's Department of Communication Studies.

Education

PhD, Mass Communications, Pennsylvania State University

MS, Communication, Florida State University

BA, Communication, Florida State University

Courses/Teaching

In Fall 2023, I am teaching courses in Digital Media and Society (COMM 3305) and the Political Economy of Communication (COMM 6011).

Research and Teaching Interests

My research and teaching examines the relationship between wealth, power, and the media -- also known as the Political Economy of Communication (PEC). My research specifically focuses on the business of sports media, the news ecosystem in California's Inland Empire, the 'hope labor' of digital creatives and interns, and critical realist epistemology and methodology. My work has been published in peer reviewed journals, such as International Journal of Communication, The Political Economy of Communication, and tripleC: Communication, Capitalism & Critique, and my 'Hope Labor' concept (coined w/ Dr. Kathleen Kuehn) has been discussed in Fortune magazine. My research is cataloged on Google Scholar and on Academia.edu. I am also a steering committee member for the Union for Democratic Communications.
