Bachelor of Arts in Communication

Relational & Organizational Communication Concentration

Strong communication skills are among the top skills employers demand. This concentration will help you learn and practice the communication skills employers want, and the skills that will help you succeed in your career. These skills include: listening, writing, interpersonal communication, interviewing, networking, leadership, conflict management, and intercultural communication.

Media Studies Concentration

The media studies concentration teaches students how to navigate an increasingly mediated and information-infused environment by developing their media literacy skills, theoretical and critical competence, as well as aesthetic and ethical sensibilities.

Strategic Communications (aka Public Relations) Concentration

Strategic Communication is the management function that identifies, establishes and maintains mutually beneficial relationships between an organization and the various publics on whom its success or failure depends. The discipline is a comprehensive communication concentration blending traditional and digital communication skills, that prepare our students for careers in the global workforce.

Specialized Concentration

Students may propose a unique, specialized 18-unit concentration if the proposed concentration has curricular integrity and if it fulfills objectives that cannot be met through one of the concentrations listed above. Proposals must be submitted no later than the student's junior year and require departmental approval (please contact your faculty advisor or the department chair). Only 12 units of course work completed prior to such approval can be applied toward a specialized concentration. Please consult the department chair for exceptions that may apply to students at the Palm Desert campus.
